CORONATION CUP RESULTS

Congratulations to all teams who competed over the weekend for the right to play in the Coronation Cup finals. Players were treated to some wonderful weather and some very close golf matches.

Further congratulations to the four teams to make it;

TAKAPAU, NAPIER, PONGAROA AND WAIROA.

In Zone 1 Hawkes Bay were hosting but Wairoa continued their recent good form as a club winning the zone but it was a very close thing. Wairoa, Hawkes Bay and Puketitiri all had two wins each (4 points) but Wairoa got through with a total of 23 games won, compared to Hawkes Bay (19) and Puketitiri (18.5). Te Pohue were the fourth team in that zone, unfortunately not getting a point but won 11.5 games .

In Zone 2 (the 5 team zone) OngaOnga hosted and again it was a very close result. So close in fact, it came down to the last match between OngaOnga and Napier which Napier won, giving them a 6.5 win over OngaOnga’s 5.5 result and collecting 8 points compared to OngaOnga’s 6 points. Total games won was Napier (28) and OngaOnga (27.5); it doesn’t come much closer! Maraenui finished 3rd (24 games won) and then Karamu (21.5) and Waipawa (19) finished 4th and 5th on 1 point.

In Zone 3 Waipukarau were the hosts but Takapau looked strong all weekend and collated 5 points (20.5 game won) from Porangahau 3pts (18.5) and Hastings (17) on 3pts with Waipukarau (16) on 1 point. Takapau were not just too good on the golf course; their new all red golf club shirts looked very smart as well.

In Zone 4 Pongaroa showed that course knowledge helps and ended up with 5 points (22 games won) from Norsewood on 4 points (19), Dannevirke 3 points (17.5) and Cape Turnagain who didn’t record a win but won 13.5 games. Well done Pongaroa, good to see one of the smaller clubs in the Hawkes bay competition making it through to the finals.

Not 100% confirmed (awaiting that from Forrie) but it appears the Coronation Cup finals will be played at Hawkes Bay (Zone 2) on the weekend of June 13th and 14th.

Many thanks to the many people at hosting clubs who helped make last weekend so successful; from green keepers to kitchen and bar personal along with the club officials who worked out the draws and times etc.

Again congratulations to the winners and all the best for the finals.
