Hawkes Bay v Wellington Interprovincial - 2-3 July 2016

A late start due to frost was the only glitch on a weekend that provided a great contest between the two provinces . HB were down 5-3 at the end of the first day with wins for Russell Mitchell and Dallas Williams and halves for Tyson Tawera and rookie Adam Winter. A nervy start saw Adam 3 down after 3 holes but won the last two holes to clinch a half . The match of the day saw Dallas Williams playng NZ rep Dan Hellier.

Finishing in near dark Williams holed a 6 ft birdie put on the last (9th) to win the match after Dan missed a put to halve . The pair produced 14 birdes in their match which alone showed the quality of the two players . ( Allen Forrest put this win down to Dallas caddie )

A fantastic meal was provided for all the players at the Napier clubhouse after the days play .

Sunday provided more of the same . With a promising start the bay team were up early in most matches and the same through the turn . A couple of early wins 4/3 to both Ben Swinburne and Adam Winter saw the Bay hold an early advantage . Carlos Tawera chipped in with another win but the remainder were in the balance . A huge birdie bomb ended Russell Mitchells charge on 17 while both Tyson Tawera and Josh Desant had birdies layed on them on the 18 to see two possible wins turned to a loss and a half .

Final Result 9.5-6.5 to Wellington

HB Women’s Rep team had their 1st competitive game against Wellington on 3rd & 4th July at the Napier Golf Club.Although we lost 7/5 it was a very pleasing performance by the girls for their 1st outing of the season.

Sara Deam played extremely well with two wins at No.3 which is a higher position in the team than she has played before, a good test for her which she handled confidently.

Nicole Aluni, our up and coming junior, playing at No.6 had an amazing win shooting her lowest score to date which will be a huge confidence builder for her.

The No.1 Janie Field had to fight hard after being down by 3 at the turn to play the back 9, 2 under the card to beat Wellington’s No.1, 2 up on the 18th hole.
