Congratulations to the Hawkes Bay / Poverty Bay Women’s team for winning the Sybil Green Salver for the first time since 2008.

The Sybil Green Salver is a quadrangular team match play competition held between Wellington, Taranaki, Manawatu/Wanganui and ourselves.  Teams consist of eight women,  and this year the event was held at the Levin Golf Club on the weekend of 8-9 October.

HB / PB Women’s Team in playing order:

1   Angela Jones (Hastings / Waipawa)

2   Tessa McDonald (Poverty Bay)

3   Sara Deam (Napier)

4   Jaimie McIvor (Maraenui)

5   Janie Field (Napier)

6   Martha Manaena (Hastings)

7   Nywrian Aluni (Napier)

8   Nicole Aluni (Napier)

The HB/PB girls won all three matches convincingly with everybody contributing to the results. The stand out players were Tessa, Sara, Jaimie, & Janie, who went through the tournament unbeaten. Angela Jones, playing No.1 for the first time, handled herself confidently with two great wins in very adverse weather conditions. Martha stuck with her game plan and came out the other end with two fighting wins. Our two new junior sisters Nicole & Nywrian learned very quickly what it was like playing all weekend in wet, windy conditions. We brought two very tired girls home with a great win each.
