Lucy May & Bays Bronze 2016 - a close finish!

For the first time in recent years the results for these annual team handicap match play competitions between Hawkes Bay and Poverty Bay were close. Poverty Bay has achieved comfortable victories in both matches over Hawkes Bay for the last 8 years, however on Monday at Waipukurau  it was a different story.

Hawkes Bay clinched a narrow victory over Poverty Bay in the Bays Bronze match –  their first win since 2004, winning  13-11 games, while the opposite result was recorded in the Lucy May match, Poverty Bay winning 13-11. So combining the 2 matches it was effectively a draw, and is the best and closest result for years.

A huge thank you to all the players – a fabulous result and an exciting day. And  thanks to the Zone Reps for their hard work with the selections and all the input on the day. As always a team effort helps to make a smooth running event. Also many thanks to Vicki Menzies (Waipukurau Club Captain) and all her helpers. Thanks to the Gisborne girls for braving the cold and I hope you all had a pleasant journey home.
