Hawke's Bay & Poverty Bay Women 36 Hole Stroke Play Results

On Sunday, the 36 hole Men’s and Women’s Stroke Play was held at the Maraenui Golf Club.

A big thank you goes to Phil, Scott, Sara and the rest of the team (including members) at Maraenui Golf Club for their assistance to the tournament on the day. Sara, in the pro-shop played a big part in ensuring everything ticked over on the day; 36 holes in June is no easy task but everyone was finished with about 20 minutes to spare.

After a foggy start, everyone endeavoured to warm up and some wind kept things on the cool side on what was a beautiful day.

A wet week ensured some testing conditions but the course was in great order considering the rain we got.

The woman’s gross event was won by Kathy Olsen, two shots ahead of Hanna Seol. In the nett section Trish McBride also won by two shots from Leigh Richardson.

In the Men’s gross section, Tyson Tawera and Mako Thompson both shot 69 in the morning with a few 72’s 73’s and 74’s tucked in behind, so the scoring was very good. Mako stepped up in the afternoon with a 66, (total 135) showing his class pulling away from the field, winning by 6 shots over Tyson Tawera (141) and Stu Duff was third (144).  Mako just recently got invited by NZ Golf to a National Development Camp so his talents are not going by unnoticed.

In Mens the nett section Richard Baines was the winner with a total nett score of 142, Jarod Lines was second on 144 and in third place was Carlos Tawera with 145.
